Trump still projects the fiction that he is the real president of the United States and that Biden is some kind of interloper who relies on rigged votes to claim his high office. Court cases, recounts, and investigations in states where the outcome of the 2020 election is in question by Trump's troops have established that the 2020 election was free and fair. Trump cobbled together an insurrection (which he thought would be much larger and more violent) when charges of election fraud did not pan out. He felt that he would be kept in office by acclamation, and he expected "his generals" to back him up with federal troops. He now explains that the military did not back him up because US troops are "woke," or brainwashed by liberals. The use of fake electors to say that Trump had won in states where he had lost proves that Trump knew he did not win the 2020 election and that he relied on the Electoral College's out-of-date math to win. He knew that he would not win the popular vote, or, at least, his loyal henchmen did.
Trump understands the value of theater in politics after years of drama in his real estate business and his reality TV career. Drama works even better in politics. Who cares whether attention is positive or negative? Not Donald Trump. Now he is directing the House of Representatives from his campaign, although he holds no role in the government. America cannot have two presidents.
Members of Congress have worked for hours and hours to write new immigration rules and they are working some more hours to turn this into a bill that can be introduced on the floor in both houses of Congress. Trump has told Republicans that they must not pass this bill because he will fix immigration after he wins in 2024. He is at his rallies lining up his peeps to back him and the Republicans against this bill that isn't even a bill yet.
Everyone is broadcasting that the 2024 election will be a rematch between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Every time we hear this, we should remember that the fact that an insurrectionist can run for office after fomenting a coup that he hoped would be violent makes our Constitution appear to be null. It also makes our nation appear to be weak. The world is watching America with shock and awe in a whole new arena. If we cannot enforce our laws, do we still have a government? Maybe. But not the same government we have had for 249 years.
Two Popes (from the Britannica)
"There was a time when Europe had two popes, one in Avignon (France) and one in Rome. The schism was driven by personalities and political allegiances, with the Avignon papacy being closely associated with the French monarchy. The papacy had resided in Avignon since 1309, but Pope Gregory XI returned to Rome in 1377. The Catholic Church split in 1378 after Gregory XI's death and Urban VI's election."...
"Shortly after the return of the papal residence to Rome following almost 70 years of the Avignon papacy, the archbishop of Bari was elected pope as Urban VI amid demands by the Roman populace for “a Roman or at least an Italian.” Urban VI proved to be so hostile to the cardinals, who had assumed great powers during the years at Avignon, that a group of cardinals retired to Anagni and elected one of themselves, Robert of Geneva, as Clement (VII), claiming the election of Urban VI had been invalid because it was made under fear. Clement (VII) then took up residence at Avignon. Although Roman Catholic church historians generally agree that Urban VI and his successors were the legitimate popes, there has never been an official pronouncement to this effect.
The double election had disastrous effects upon the church. The followers of the two popes were divided chiefly along national lines, and thus the dual papacy fostered the political antagonisms of the time. The spectacle of rival popes denouncing each other produced great confusion and resulted in a tremendous loss of prestige for the papacy.
The church’s dual papacy caused profound confusion in territories that were uncertain which pope to obey; the difference on this issue between England and France prolonged the Hundred Years’ War (1337–1453). France was especially given the chance to intervene in Italian politics. King Charles V the Wise of France not only recognized Clement but on the day of Clement’s death declared him “the true Shepherd of the Church.” Clement himself died convinced of his legitimacy."

Having two presidents is unlikely to be any less confusing than having two popes. If Trump can shut down legislation, is he showing that he can just ignore our current president and do as he wishes? With a Republican party bent on obstruction and backing an insurrectionist, and with small voting margins, Trump will likely lead Democrats on a dismal dance all the way to November unless courts can take him out. Every action by this reckless, power-hungry ex-president should convince us to vote for Biden/Harris in 2024. If the government does not have the will to use constitutional powers, then what we vote for is what we get.
Correction: Interesting historical comparison between the two popes and the two presidents. I believe the Democrat Convention and Republican Convention will reset the race and Trump will be tried and convicted for his crimes against humanity.
