I know what I have to say will cause outrage in some quarters, but clearly the Republican party needs to be disbanded. The courts that still function to offer objective justice must punish a party that has planned a takeover of our democracy with plans to replace it with a right-wing authoritarian state. Republicans are guilty of sedition at least, or treason at most. They colluded through conservative organizations to gut the Voting Rights Act by saying that preclearance was no longer necessary and then proving that it was. On June 25, 2013, the Supremes changed the Voting Rights Act in their Shelby County decision.
"The landmark 1965 law that required certain states and localities with a history of discrimination against minority voters to get changes in voting cleared by the federal government before they went into effect...Immediately after the decision, Republican lawmakers in Texas and North Carolina - two states previously covered by the law - moved to enact new voter ID laws and other restrictions."

"Evangelicals shared data they had access to from church membership with the Republican Party which used the data to do some extreme gerrymandering.
May 10, 2013: Lois Lerner, Director of the IRS Exempt Organizations division, publicly acknowledged that the agency had been inappropriately scrutinizing conservative-leaning organizations applying for tax-exempt status.
May 14, 2013: The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) released a report confirming that the IRS had used inappropriate criteria, including the use of keywords like "Tea Party" or "patriots," to identify groups for intensive scrutiny. The report indicated this practice began as early as 2010."
Republican raised holy hell, and they accused the IRS of bias (they still do), but the 501c4 nonprofits (churches) really were involved in politics which is against the law.
The plan to turn America into a conservative fiefdom began either with the Reagan administration or the Tea Party depending on who's posting.
Republicans (including Evangelicals) accepted Trump as their candidate because they saw that he had no boundaries, although he was distasteful to them, crass and undignified. The group of Congress members named the "raucous caucus" by Alex Wagner (perhaps) demonstrated that dignity was not going to get the job done.
Republicans stayed with Trump even when he incited an insurrection and they refused to convict him through impeachment.
A Republican group supplied Trump with lists of right leaning candidates for the Supreme Court.
Mitch McConnell (a Republican) appointed right-wingers to federal district courts even as he obstructed all other Congressional business.
Republicans created chaos around voting so that it was difficult to tell if voting was still free and fair. Thus Republicans and Trump were able to create the chaos following the 2020 election.
A Supreme Court packed with Republicans gave presidents (meaning Trump) immunity from prosecution if their actions were official acts. (If all acts of a president are official acts, then a president cannot be prosecuted.) (Does this mean a president cannot be impeached?) (Does this change the US Constitution?)
"In a historic decision, a divided Supreme Court on Monday ruled that former presidents can never be prosecuted for actions relating to the core powers of their office, and that there is at least a presumption that they have immunity for their official acts more broadly."

Republicans went to visit Orbán in Hungary to study his illiberal democracy (a democracy in name only).
Viktor Orbán, leader of Hungary has spoken at CPAC many times recently. He praises Trump, laments LGBTQ+, backs white nationalism, and is against immigration. Most American Republicans are conservatives who attend CPAC. Republicans are following Orbán's methods for a government takeover.
Project 2025 was written to get rid of the "deep state" of government civil servants who attempted to uphold the US Constitution in Trump's first term. It gave detailed instructions for each cabinet department and each federal institution for how to rid the second Trump administration (you are welcome to call it a regime) of that mislabeled "deep state" and for hiring loyalists to replace them. Project 2025 was written by Republicans who had already manipulated voting and the courts to help Trump and the party win in 2024.
On The View, Thursday morning, June 5, 2025, the panel talked about the Democrats. Sarah Haines said that she has been an Independent for 20 years. Whoopie said that she will not be labeled. They recommended that America needs more political parties.
Unless we change the Constitution to rid ourselves of the Electoral College, there cannot be more than two main political parties. No one would be able to get a majority of the votes. We cannot afford to change the Constitution amid a government takeover by Republicans under Trump. If we divide the Democratic vote in 2026, we will lose Congress and the Republican majority will continue to rubber stamp the dangerous policies of the Republican Party and Trump. If we divide the Democratic vote that will truly end our democracy. Clearly, in at least the 2026 election, we cannot afford to split the Democratic Party vote. It doesn't matter right now how you feel about the Democrats unless you think living in an authoritarian state will be just peachy.
The Republicans planned and executed a government takeover (a coup) and gave the very flawed leader of their party immunity to govern as he pleases. He pleases to spew anger and bile and amass a personal fortune. The Party is guilty of sedition, if not revolt, or treason. The Republican Party should be disbanded by the courts and any members of the current Republican government must be banned from forming a new party.
Memes?
A friend whose politics I trust reminds me that many Americans don't read long articles. He says that memes are the most effective way to get points across. He's probably right. I have seen some very witty memes. I might have to work on sharpening my wit.
