Donald's Bizarre Behavior
From a Google Image Search - The Daily Beast
Donald Trump once said that he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue, and he wouldn't lose voters. Of course, we have heard this so many times that it has lost its shock value, as have so many other things that Donald has said and done. Sadly, we also have seen that his statement has some basis. He has been impeached twice, but not convicted. He has been charged with 90+ felonies but has yet to be sentenced. He wields the shield of proximity to an election in the way a crooked diplomat wields the shield of diplomatic immunity. He fomented an insurrection against the US government in an attempt at a coup, but he is running to be our president again, something interdicted in our Constitution.
The skinny is that he is in mental decline, that he is unhinged. Perhaps, but, again, no one seems to care. Perhaps it is because he feels protected by the Supreme Court (his Supreme Court), by being able to choose a judge he appointed, and because his base accepts any behavior on his part. Whatever the reasons his ego has grown so great that even if he spouts nonsense and ends a town hall with 39 minutes of music and lackadaisical dancing it will not affect his poll numbers in the slightest. Even if he threatens to punish his enemies, send the military to arrest them, nada. Even if he talks about getting electrocuted by a yacht that runs on electricity or discusses sharks the way a five-year-old boy might he will still be untouchable. And it seems that his arrogance is rewarded with potential votes that remain steady regardless of his behavior.
One staff person tells us that Donald is exhausted and that's why he is "phoning it in" on the campaign trail. His poll numbers stay the same. Maybe it is Donald's narcissism that tells him he is invincible and has him finding creative ways to entertain his base without putting out all the energy it takes to keep pounding away at his hits. Maybe in the way a rock star might get sick of singing everyone's favorite songs at every concert, Donald wants to try out some new material. He obviously feels confident that he will keep his fans (his base).
More likely, it is that Donald feels the fix is in and the election rigged in his favor in key swing states and gerrymandered districts. He believes he has allies in key positions to ensure the votes and Electoral College numbers add up in his favor. Can we eke out one more free and fair election? If Trump wins it could be our last free and fair election. Is his loony confidence justified? Is this election in the bag? I can't help but hope that he will be beaten, and the show will be over. The American people will say, "You're fired!
Def con learning the words to Oh Canada.
